  • Exercise Text 5- English into Arabic

    Deadline 10 March 2023

The following is an introduction to an article on refugees. It is published in a magazine special on refugee issues and experience. Your translation will hypothetically be published in the Arabic version of thr same magazine. You received these instructions:

    1. The Arabic must be natural in Arabic
    2. The translation must be faithful to the original.
    3. You Must maintain the same paragraph structure but can use cohesive evidence and slight free translation to preserve meaning and style.
    4. If you encounter new terms, you must use www.unterm.un.org
    5. The hypothetical client believes that you already have necessary:
    a. Conceptual knowledge about refugees and displacement
    b. Procedural knowledge about how you should translate
    c. Conditional knowledge about the requirements of the magazine.

Frequently, traditional psychosocial programming focuses on incidents that have taken place in the past and is implemented in spaces that are now physically safe. However, in protracted crises such as in Afghanistan, children are coping not only with past trauma but also with ongoing stress and fear. In these contexts, psychosocial programming must take a different approach. Building a sense of safety must focus on strengthening children’s awareness of risk and stress, teaching them individual coping skills and creating a feeling of safety through play, creative expression and trust exercises.

In Afghanistan, there are approximately 767,600 children who have been internally displaced by conflict.Ensuring continuity of education during a crisis is vital to providing routine and structure, enabling children to pursue longer-term goals and reducing lifelong dropouts from education. The Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC) provides education for thousands of displaced children across Afghanistan but has found that, with increased exposure to horrific violence over recent years, it is now even more challenging for children to integrate into their new environment and stay motivated in their education.

      Hi there, Majd.
Explain what you've done so far to convert the English text into Arabic. It appears that there are problems with every translation you've uploaded. For the sake of providing assistance, I'm making trying to understand you better. There were probably some slips in your translation procedures that need to be rectified before we can go any further.

I am not sure why you blame yourself instead of answering my question. Explain the steps you have taken so far in translating the texts? You just need to say the steps. Example:
      Step 1: I did.....
      Step 2: I did.....

      Awaiting your answer.

What are the steps that you followed in translation? I cannot say anything useful unless I know in details what you did.

First, i read the text. Second, i select difficult words.
Third, i looked for their meaning. Fourth, i translated the text. Finally, i checked the target text.
