  • Timeline of Small Claims Court interpreting research - current study

This is a placeholder to remind ourselves of the timeline for the court interpreting study that I am working on with your help. Please, keep this in mind. I do not want you to comment here on this thread. Just reflect on it and let us meet in the zoom meeting to discuss it further.

    1. So far, we have got the knowledge content from interviews with lawyers and interpreters. I have already transcribed, analysed and coded the results.
    2. Based on the knowledge content, we now proceed to the next stage: building the training material then performing the training.
NOTE: Training material is the PowerPoint. But, Training handbook is the word document.
PowerPoint is the most important thing in the training.
The handbook is just to scribble our ideas in it. It will be a biproduct, as conceived in this stage.

    Building the training material
    1. This will be an intensive exercise.
    2. The special group (including our guest from USA) + trainer (UK) will convene on 15 January 2022 (as agreed).
    3. We will start the discussions immediately. Sessions will be distributed twice or once a week, depending on our progress.
    4. In each session, I am writing on the screen what I think the most appropriate to be included in the training handbook.
    5. Simultaneously, I am creating videos and graphics with scenarios for: 1) the explainers 2) the exercises.
Your input: Critique of the training in terms of: concepts, sequencing of learning and graphics. In addition, I am looking for your input concerning the brain-based issue (the devices of the strategies)
    6. We will need the trainer (UK) to give us some mock training sessions before the actual course.
    7. I have invited trainees to attend the course in late March or April. All training sessions are on zoom (does that work for you, time wise: 9 PM GMT+2)???
    8. The actual training will be for four or six sessions. The PowerPoint (training material) should be ready by then. I am also going to get it verified by professors/interpreters and/or lawyers (depending on their availability). I am going to give the training so that the trainer to make adjustments if needed. There are translators and some students who will attend it. Trainer should attend those lessons to see how things work/not work.
    9. I will analyse the lessons learnt from the training.
    10. The trainer will then conduct her training beginning in late May or June?? It depends on how many students we get.
    11. Again, lessons learnt will guide us to the final refinement of the training material before we go to the actual case study.
    12. At this stage, the PowerPoint material is ready, the videos are ready and the trainer is ready.

In the training sessions by the trainer, I am an observer.
Note: Very very very specific instructions will be given to the trainer. She only has to follow them in each slide. No need to worry about it.
